Ingredients

Qty Ingredient
4 cups maseca
1 tsp salt( or to your liking)
1 tbsp baking powder
3 cups water (1/2 cup on the side to dip your hands)

Preparation

  1. Put maseca into a large bowl
  2. Add salt and baking powder
  3. Mix water into masec a handful at a time, squeezing the mix between your fingers
  4. Roll the mixture into a ball an cut into 4 equal sized pieces
  5. Repeat step 4 with the 4 equal sized pieces
  6. Roll the 16 pieces into balls and flatten with a tortilla press into quarter inch thick rounds
  7. Stuff your selected goody and cheese and form into tamale like shape making sure all the seams are sealed
  8. Heat enough oil to almost cover 4-5 gorditas at medium until a drop of water quickly boils off
  9. Fry the gorditas 4 minutes per side, they should be just golden
  10. Enjoy
